It’s short for Ksenia — the founder’s name, worn down to three letters the way names get worn down by the people who love you.

Later we found out that Shu was the Egyptian god of air and light, the one who made space between earth and sky so there was room to breathe.

We didn’t plan that. But it turned out to be exactly what we were making: air, light, and a little more room in the day.
